It is the second in a series of three intended titles on the collections of Nationalmuseum Stockholm, the first of which focused on the museum's important collection of paintings and sculpture.Illustrated in color throughout, this latest addition to the Scala list charts the development of Swedish decorative and applied art from the Vasa 'Renaissance' period at the end of the 17th century, through Rococo and Gustavian Classicism of the 18th century, the Romanticism of the 19th century right up to the age of 'Scandinavian Design' in the late 1950s and early 1960s.
