The Animals' Padre : The Life and Works of James Thompson

See all formats and editions

The unique James Thompson spent a clerical lifetime challenging the widespread dogma and doctrine of the Christian church that believes that animals have no souls and therefore no rights. He was a saint to those who believe in kindness and compassion for the fellow creatures we share this earth with - and a thorn in the side of those who believe that only humans matter.

How we came to have these opposing views is a matter of history that James explains well.

This republishing of a collection of his early booklets will not go down well with some in the Church establishment. James was blacklisted by an Archbishop, and 'rocked the boat' on countless occasions, costing him his own bishophood. He doesn't mince words in his condemnation of the established view of the Church - and of those who actively pursue animal cruelty. The Animals' Padre was a militant for kindness and compassion - and certainly no chocolate soldier...

'Until he extends the circle of his compassion to all living things, man himself will never experience peace' - Albert Schweitzer
