Bridging books

Cambridge Reading is a major new reading scheme which provides stimulating books and support materials for the teaching of reading throughout the primary years.

Key features include: a coherent yet flexible structure for teaching and learning; a variety of high-quality, attractive picture books; a balance of different text types and genres, including stories, poems and information books; an integrated phonics programme and comprehensive support materials.

The Bridging Books help children who have made a slow start in learning to read to build confidence and fluency.

Each set of Bridging Books comprises six books that are motivating and fun to read.

They gradually increase in difficulty of vocabulary, sentence structure, story complexity and length.

June Crebbin's books, illustrated by Susan Hellard, all centre around a lively boy called Max and his family.
