An agreement 300 years ago, between an angel and Marek's founding fathers, protects magic and politic stability within the city.

A recent plague wiped out most of the city's sorcerers.

Reb, one of the survivors, realises that someone has deposed the city-angel without replacing it.

Marcia, Heir to House Fereno, stumbles across that same truth.

But it is just one part of a much more ambitious plan to seize control of Marek.

Meanwhile, city Council members connive and conspire, manipulated in a dangerous political game that threatens the peace and security of all the states around the Oval Sea.
