She believes only in what she can prove, whereas he only believes in what he feels.

His beliefs in the supernatural are a constant irritant to Heather, which intensifies with Ethan's sudden irrational belief that he has been called upon to perform a divine mission.

Ethan and Heather both possess an uncommon sense of humor which they use to attempt to ease, and sometimes hide from, their emotional burdens.

Their attempt at reconciliation with each other and their true natures revolves around the house where the tragedy they experienced in childhood occurred.
