Culture Bumps : An Empirical Approach to the Translation of Allusions

This work focuses on translators and readers as participants in the communicative process, where the use of allusions is one type of problem to be solved.

Reader-response tests and interviews with professional translators highlight the difficulty in conveying the function and meaning of allusive passages to readers in another culture.

The many examples discussed also provide materials for translation teachers wanting to address the translation of allusions in their courses.
