The Magellan Fallacy : Globalization and the Emergence of Asian and African Literature in Spanish

Hispanists have been divided traditionally into specialists of either Spain or Latin America, yet this binarism is ill suited to a world that has been globalized since Magellan, ignoring the literature of Asian and African authors.

These supposedly peripheral literary traditions are not isolated or parochial curiosities.

Instead, they offer the opportunity for a rethinking of diverse cartographies of mainstream history, literature, and cultural studies, and help reimagine the centers and peripheries of the modern world.
