Irish Signs and Notices

What is it about a sign or a notice that often provokes hilarity?

The message is condensed, space is at a premium, and the sign or notice often loses its meaning, or indeed acquires a whole new meaning, sometimes unintended, and in many delicious cases, quite rude.
