Programmes to tackle social exclusion have developed on a twin track over many years.

While some have focused on the regeneration of neighbourhoods, others have targeted individuals irrespective of where they live.

This report looks at the benefits of integrating these two approaches.

Drawing on experiences from nine UK cities, "Developing People - Regenerating Place" analyses the views of a range of practitioners on how to achieve more effective joint working across area regeneration and social inclusion initiatives.

The report focuses on three key issues: the particular benefits of joint working for those involved in area regeneration and social inclusion initiatives; the barriers that make joint working difficult between these two groups; and how to create an environment within which joint working becomes much more common.

The report will be of particular interest to practitioners involved in area regeneration and social inclusion, students and researchers with a specialist interest in tackling social exclusion, and funders and policy makers at regional, national and European levels responsible for designing more effective interventions.
