Brazil : National Parks

It was only in 1937 that the first national park in Brazil was founded in Itatiaia, in the state of Rio de Janeiro.

Since then, dozens of parks have been created forming a mosaic of spectacular landscapes, and areas of biological, geological and geographic relevance.

Divided into regions, this guide presents hundreds of destinations and attractions to visit, as contrasting as the extensive sand dunes from Lencois Maranhenses, to the monumental cliffs of Aparadosv da Serra.

It provides detailed maps, selected routes, fauna and flora, regional culture, nature sports, geography and history and tips about how to discover the parks, which used to be reserved only for scientists and a few adventurers who dared to discover those regions by themselves.
