Antony Gormley : Blind Light

See all formats and editions

Over the last 25 years, Antony Gormley, Britain's best-known living sculptor, has revitalised the human image through a radical investigation of the body as a place of memory and transformation.

This richly illustrated catalogue accompanies the Hayward Gallery exhibition in Spring 2007, Gormley's first major showing in a public gallery in London.

The book includes photographs of new works specially commissioned for the Hayward, including the colossal Space Station, a 6m-high steel work built in direct response to the Hayward's architecture, and Event Horizon, an installation of around 30 sculptures sited on buildings across central London, spreading outwards from the Hayward and dramatically infesting the city skyline.

The book also includes a visual essay by Gormley himself with his own photography and captions, showing a new side to the artist through his diverse sources of inspiration. An in-depth interview with Hayward Director Ralph Rugoff and Curator Jacky Klein takes a unique look at Gormley's place in contemporary culture and the history of art.

The catalogue will be a rich, unique and intimate companion to the exhibition.
