The Garden is God's...every plant in it has a spiritual significance, so they themselves are what the garden is for.

The call to mind a specific feast, evoke a biblical event, call to mind a Saint, a virtue; help in the remembrance of the past and present grief and joys. "Gardening for Easter" covers the period from Ash Wednesday to Easter day, and continues to give practical proof of the close link between prayer and gardening.

In a brief introduction, Jane Mossendew explains how growing the book's featured plants illuminates Lenten themes including prayer, fasting and almsgiving.

There is a plant for every day of the main Lenten liturgy and Easter Sunday.

There is also a plant each for the Solemnity and Saint's days that occur between 10 March and 25 April.

As in her previous book, Jane Mossendew gives a list of suppliers.

For each entry there are cultivation notes, history and lore, some guidance on appropriate meditation, Bible readings, intercessions and places of spiritual retreat.
