Privateers Of Charleston In The War Of 1812

During the War of 1812 the United States government issued "letters of marque" to private individuals authorising them to attack, board and ransom British shipping.

Among the most successful of these ships hailed from the port of Charleston harbour in South Carolina, they plundered the Atlantic seaboard searching for British sails on the horizon.
