“Where Does Wilbur Go?” tells the story of Wilbur, a beloved figure who lives in the little town of Hacklemore. His local garden store is the center of social life in the town. Everyone loves to go to Wilbur’s Garden Store in spring and summer to buy flowers and gardening supplies. In the fall, the townspeople buy apples and attend Wilbur’s annual Halloween party for the local children. Every winter he closes down his store, and drives off as the town bids him goodbye until his return in spring. The children’s imaginations run wild as they wonder where he spends the long winter months. They imagine him embarking on all kinds of fantastic adventures that take him around the globe and even into outer space! Along the way, they think of all the new friends that he makes. When he returns, the children always want to know where he went, who he met and what he did all winter long. His vague responses never quite clear up the mystery, leaving the children in the town perpetually curious. Written from the children’s point of view, this book tells the story of a cherished friend whose adventures remain a mystery and a figment of everyone’s imagination.
