Lymphatic and Non-Lymphatic Fluid Loss from the Peritoneal Cavity : Special Topic Issue: Blood Purification 1992, Vol. 10, No. 3-4

Fluid loss from the peritoneal cavity has a significant effect on the clinical efficacy of peritoneal dialysis.

The lack of detailed knowledge about the pathways for this fluid loss has led to considerable scientific debate.

This publication presents the proceedings of a symposium where clinical nephrologists, physiologists, lymphologists, engineers and other scientists were brought together in an attempt to resolve this debate.

The following topics were discussed: the identification of lymphatic and nonlymphatic pathways for fluid loss; methods for measuring fluid loss; the dependence of fluid loss on other parameters (intraperitoneal pressure, state of conciousness, drugs; and the effect of fluid loss on net ultrafiltration in peritoneal dialysis.
