The Measurement of Nervous Habits in Normal Children was first published in 1929.Certain "nervous habits, such as thumb sucking, nail biting, and others are among the common problems of child behavior.

A study of their occurrence in some seven hundred normal children on the basis of an inventory is here reported.

Intensive study is given to the relation of such habits to family history, habit formation, nutritional status, fatigue, imitation, age, and sex.

The material should prove of interest to parents, physicians, psychologists, and teachers.

One of the significant contributions is the development of a method of measurement which is applicable to any observable trait and which may, in the future, throw light upon many problems now difficult of solution.
