Focused on combining psychological testing with abnormal and developmental psychology, this text focuses on the "psychometric core" while also examining testing and assessment as they are practiced within each stage of development. Throughout 20 years of teaching, William Van Ornum recognized a unique need in his classes: while his students taking Abnormal Psychology were enthusiastic and eager to work, the motivation of many students in Psychological Testing was drastically different.

Finding that they were more nourished by Abnormal Psychology textbooks that were well-designed, had case studies, and material from current events - features that the usual Psychological Testing text did not have - in writing Psychological Testing Across the Lifespan Van Ornum sought to level this playing field.

Focused on combining psychological testing with abnormal and developmental psychology, the text incorporates six chapters focused on the "psychometric core", with an additional eight chapters devoted to psychological testing and assessment as they are practiced within each stage of development.

This organization, in addition to photos, case examples, student question boxes, charts, graphs, and statistical information, are designed to garner student interest and assist with real-life applications of the text material.
