Few in the world know the identity of the immortal Methuselah Rain who tries to lay low from those out to try to kill him.

The 14-year-old Machika knows what he looks like from her grandfather, the Grim Reaper Zol, who never succeeded in killing Rain.

Upon Machika's grandfather's death, she vows to avenge his death by defeating the Methuselah.

As Machika attacks Rain while he's playing a violin (later found out to belong to a love of Rain's from 600 years ago, Freya) other would-be assassins pounce - an assault that ends with Rain saving Machika's life.

This only makes Machika more determined to defeat and kill Rain, even though (both being alone in the world) they seem to enjoy each other's company.

While searching for Rain with her new three-eyed, rabbit eared, cat companion, Kiki, Machika meets Ayla Ulfan.

In the meantime, a mysterious lady known as Sharem awakens from a block of ice-an "immortal angel" frozen for 600 years.

Machika dressed as a boy escorts Ayla to an auction of the once-again captured Rain, and despite losing in a fight with that same Sharem for Rain, she and Rain are able to escape. Ayla leads Machika and Rain to the compound of the survivors of a kingdom whose king, Yakoh, was assassinated.

Ayla is one of the survivors as well, the lover of the king, and hopes to bring him back to life thanks to Rain.

Just then, Sharem and her young assistants, Eury and Jilleena, arrive at the compound to prevent the revival of Yakoh, whom they killed for "getting in the way of their work." In the end, Ayla decides to bury Yakoh and "live" on without him.

Shortly before parting with Ayla, Rain tries to leave Machika again following an attack by the Angel monster awakened earlier by Sharem.

Machika however refuses to quit following Rain, promising to be his "Reaper."
