This volume takes as its area of study the periphery of the core areas of Hallstatt culture in Baden-Wurttemburg and Bavaria, including the so-called 'princely residences'.

Through the use of a Geographic Information System (GIS), a tool well suited to the field of settlement research sites, the author explores the relationship between the inhabitants and their environment, and especially their ability to expoit environmental preconditions.
