Patterns and procedures

Patterns and procedures focuses on initial learning strategies and active grammar learning.

Part 1: Stimulating grammatical awareness explores some of the pitfalls into which many initial learners fall, based on the seeming contradictory theory of teaching the ears to see and the eyes to hear.

It then suggests activities which can help learners to avoid or accelerate past these traps.

Part 2: Active grammar looks at elements of grammar in the most commonly taught languages which are absent or different from those in English, and suggests ways of building up the new neural pathways needed to cope with these structures and forms.
