This work is in two parts. Part 1 studies the inscriptions of the Sarabhapuriyas, Panduvamsins and Somavamsins.

It provides a background to the study of the inscriptions by attempting to deal with their formal aspects like the format, paleography, language, orthography, contents and methods of dating and to trace, for the first time, the evolution of their draft.

Part 2 supplies critically edited texts and fairly comprehensive abstracts of the records of the Sarabhapuriyas, Panduvamsins of Mekala and South Kosala and Somavamsins of Kasala and Orissa. No efforts have been spared to update the work and the epigraphs that have come to light till now have been noticed.

Practically all the inscriptions have been illustrated with a view to enabling the discerning readers to check the proposed readings which are in many a case new and make material differences.

The volume would be hopefully found useful by students and researchers.
