My Life and Nursing Memories by Nurse Corbishley

Vera Shemilt (formerly Nurse Corbishley) has had a fascinating life and now at the age of 93, she would like to share her experiences of that life, and in particular the nursing profession, with a wider audience.

Born a few weeks after the outbreak of the First World War, Vera grew up in rural Staffordshire.

Having seen a recruitment poster for nursing in her early teens she set out on a career that would give her many years of happiness and fulfilment culminating in her employment as a District Nurse.

Her story charts the changes in the nursing profession over the years as well as giving an insight into the personal life of a dedicated and committed lady.
