Gerald "Jerry" Norman Springer, born in Highgate underground station, London, England, UK on February 13th, 1944, while the station was being used as a shelter from German bombing during World War II, was a British/American TV host, journalist, actor, producer, lawyer & politician.

Born to Jewish refugees escaping the Holocaust, Jerry was brought up on Chandos Road, East Finchley, London then in Queens, New York City, US.

He attended Northwestern University School of Law, qualified as a lawyer then first became actively involved in politics working for the presidential campaign of Robert Kennedy during 1968. A Cincinnati City Council member, Springer was the 56th Mayor of Cincinnati from 1977 to 1978 then worked as a local news anchor in the city where he won several Regional Emmy Awards for commentary.

He was best known for hosting the controversial tabloid talk show Jerry Springer from 1991 to 2018, having also hosted America's Got Talent from 2007 to 2008 then the courtroom show Judge Jerry from 2019 to 2022.

He hosted The Jerry Springer Podcast from 2015 to 2022.

He was noted as a pioneer in the emergence of 'trash TV', his eponymous show being a 'commercial smash and certifiable cultural phenomenon' during the '90s.
