Deputy Sheriff Lew Kennett is up against it: the Hap Ivy gang are on the prowl, rustlers are at work and a thief is making himself extremely busy in town.

When he sets out to capture an outlaw the situation gets wildly out of hand and whilst surviving an ambush and preventing a lynching, he is caught up in another facet of local crime and has to kill a townsman.

He has survived a knife attack and is hoping that this is the end of his run of troubles, but in this town the sheriff's life is always on the line, and he is determined to beat the odds and stay alive...
