Empowerment has become a well-used term across a wide variety of work settings that involve dealing with people and their problems.

But is it a central part of good practice or an empty word? And what of power? It is a central theme of human services practice but, like empowerment, is often only loosely examined. "Power and Empowerment" is part of the "Theory into Practice" series, which Neil Thompson edits.

Each book in the Series can be read either as a general overview of particular areas of theory and practice, or as a foundation for further study.
