Free school fees and choice of private schools in Togo

In 2008, the State decreed free tuition in all public schools in Togo, in order to reduce the burden of school fees, but despite this, parents still prefer private schools.

This situation can be explained by the poor conditions (overcrowding, untimely strikes, etc.) in public schools, while the results of the primary school leaving certificate (CEPD) in private schools are better than in public schools.
