This book on buffalo production provides the scientific basis for the development of new production systems for both river and swamp buffaloes.

Emphasis has been placed on the need for more scientific research on all aspects of the buffalo industry, which will continue to be of great importance in many parts of the world, particularly in less developed countries.

Buffalo Production has been prepared as a reference for scientists, administrators, teachers and extension officers and also as a text for tertiary level students in agricultural science, animal science and veterinary science courses.

The volume is divided into three main parts: 1) Basic Principles; distribution, breeding, nutrition, reproduction, growth, development, behavior and training. 2) Health; diseases, parasites, nutritional and metabolic disorders. 3) Production; production systems - including chapters on milk production and marketing, high quality meat production and large scale ranching.

Where appropriate, for each major topic, river and swamp types have been given separate chapters.

Also included is an extensive bibliography, tables, photographs and an index of key words.
