How to Charleston Correctly

See all formats and editions

Discovered in Charleston, South Carolina, being danced by black dockworkers, the Charleston first hit the general public through the medium of the Ziegfeld Follies in 1923.

In a sanitised and technically simplified version it soon swept the social dance world of the USA and went on to conquer the world.

At the time it was regarded in many quarters as vulgar and degenerate, and was soon supplanted by other dances, but in the public mind it remains indelibly associated with the roaring twenties.

This 1925 instruction book, here reprinted for the first time, gives full and detailed instructions on how to dance the authentic Charleston.
