An Anglo-Irish Dialect Glossary for Joyce's Works

Wall, Richard(Edited by)
See all formats and editions

This work is intended to provide the general reader as well as the specialist with access to an important but neglected element of Joyce's style: the Anglo-Irish (Hiberno-English) dialect.

Although some commentaries and editions of individual works include glossaries on a few terms, this is the first full scale reference work of its kind.

It will be of use to others besides Joyceans also because Joyce's use of the dialect is so extensive that most examples a reader is likely to encounter elsewhere are identified and explained here.
