The Last Supper: Andy Warhol

See all formats and editions

Andy Warhol's interest in using the great works of Western Art for his own iconography, begins as early as his silkscreen Mona Lisas of 1963 and ends with his silkscreen Last Suppers of 1986.

In the latter works, Warhol re-visits Leonardo to startling effect.

Having grown out of a commission which promised that the Warhol work would be shown first in Milan -- right across the street from the real Last Supper -- this series of creative samplings proved to be an all-consuming project for Warhol.

This book considers and documents all of the images Warhol created around The Last Supper, and the result is as revealing as it is transfixing.
