The Clergy of Sussex c.1635-c.1665

This book is a 'Directory' of the clergy who served the county of Sussex from shortly before the outbreak of the civil wars until just after the re-establishment of the Church of England following the restoration of the monarchy.

The book contains brief biographical details of each man derived from the 'Alumni' of the universities of Oxford and Cambridge, the Clergy of the Church of England Database [CCED], the writings of Calamy, Walker and Matthews and sundry other sources including the Wills of over 300 of the 700+ names covered.

The clergy include all identifiable ordained ministers and those appointed by the commonwealth/Cromwellian regime as well as a number of 'Independents' and others.
