The book is essentially a collection of topics in electronics and physics which are the basis of the modern electronic instrumentation used in physical, chemical, biological and medical research.

Descriptions of specific circuits have been avoided because of the short market lifetime of most instruments, and the "electronic building blocks" approach has been adopted instead so that any instrument can be analysed on a functional basis.
