Theoretical models of skeletal muscle : biological and mathematical considerations

Within skeletal muscle there exists a complex interplay of chemical, electrical and mechanical events at macroscopic, cellular and molecular levels, and as a result, modelling this complex biological tissue is difficult.

The first part of this volume presents an examination of the basic physiology and mechanics of skeletal muscle, and builds from this to discuss existing models, including the conceptual biological frameworks and implementation of the Hill and Huxley models.
