Mad cow disease created a panic for consumers around the world. The demand for safe nutritious beef products increased as more and more countries and producers reported cases of BSE known as mad cow disease.

This story is about one lone cattle rancher and his battle with the establishment to provide safe nutritious beef. For generations, beef was produced with the good ole boy network of "scratch my back and I will scratch yours." Fast-food corporations employed contract buyers who conspired to keep purchase cost down while keeping ranchers from receiving full value for their beef. JD Murphy stood almost alone against this age-old method of producing and selling beef by creating a direct to processor to consumer organic beef approved by the USDA as safe and nutritious.
