This handbook explains what Investors in People (IIP) means, why it is important, how it will affect organizations, and what benefits can be reaped from it.

Although not a guide to implementing IIP, this text is intended to be of use as a check-list and a source of ideas concerning IIP.

It has been updated to include the new version of the Standard launched on April 13th 2000.

The Standard itself has been changed from being "process-oriented" (with a requirement to put certain processes in place) to being outcome, evidence and indicator based.

It is thus much less prescriptive and seeks evidence that the requirements of each of the new indicators is being met.

For many organizations involved in IIP, its jargon-free explanations of the IIP clauses make it a comprehensive check-list.

It is intended to act as a source of ideas for anyone compiling a portfolio of evidence for their local Training and Enterprise Council (TEC), Local Enterprise Company (LEC), Training and Employment Agency (TEA), Assessment and Recognition Unit, etc. to assess, as well as providing an introduction to IIP for all employees. It is even possible to customize this publication to meet individual organizations needs, by adding their own logo, commitment to IIP message, mission statement, vision and values, or by changing the text to match the terminoloyg already being used within the organization.
