Rene, a six year old Jewish boy, is living in Paris with his parents and baby brother, when the Nazis invade in 1941. The young family soon find their lives in danger. They flee to the countryside, hoping that, by living quietly and anonymously, they will escape arrest. Some people are willing to risk their lives to help them, but others are determined to betray them. When the Nazis arrive to arrest their mother, the two boys manage to escape and have to learn to survive without their parents. Finally and cruelly, they are separated even from each other. A true story based on the memoirs of Rene who, after a lifetime of silence, decides to share his story. Beautifully detailed sepia tinted drawings give a historically accurate record of the experience of Jews in occupied France during the war.
