Part of the Jewellery Handbooks series
See all formats and editions

A hands-on guide to the practicalities of brooch design and fabrication - written to inspire enthusiastic beginners with limited craft skills, as well as engaging those more experienced jewellers who wish to understand and adopt new techniques.

The core of the book will be a series of brooch project masterclasses, with step-by-step photographs illustrating key stages of both the basic and more advanced techniques employed.

Each masterclass will be lead by a different named maker whose work the author has selected based on innovation and originality - and by the need to illustrate a specific process or technique in which they are proficient. (Projects will also necessarily cover certain 'general' jewellery techniques, so the book's appeal should extend to readers whose interest is not limited to brooch making.) Where relevant, every project will include the author's own practical tips and tricks of the trade, reflecting her personal experience of working with the various materials and methods described in the book.

Work from other makers will also be used to illustrate different approaches to similar techniques.
