This video presents the complete two-hour BBC production of Caryl Churchill's influential play, directed for television (as the original Royal Court production was), by Max Stafford-Clark.

It also contains a workshop discussion of how the opening dinner table scene might be alternatively staged, and in order to achieve what effects.

Both Caryl Churchill and Max Stafford-Clark are interviewed, as well as several eminent American drama academics, discussing the issue of gender and performance and the play's structure, style and importance in modern drama study.

Top Girls focuses the study of the play's basic issues (both in style and content), provides the viewer with a context in which to place their study, and generates informed discussion about the play's possible meanings.

Produced by the Open University. NOT AVAILALE IN NORTH AMERICA.
