Electric Vehicles : Driving Towards Commercialization

As vehicle manufacturers diligently refine prototype EVs and move the technology towards commercialization, they provide the development base for HEVs.

Supplementing these efforts with the development of advanced energy converters (compression ignited direct injected combustion engines, gas turbogenerators, and fuel cells) and improved versions of energy storage devices (high power density bipolar batteries, ultracapacitors, and flywheels) has resulted in numerous new research and development activities worldwide.

Electric Vehicles: Driving Towards Commercialization encompasses the diverse EV and HEV research and development activities carried out during the first half of the nineties.

Although the primary focus of this publication is work undertaken within North America, an attempt has been made to represent the considerable amount of significant work done in Europe and Asia.
