Australia: State of the Environment 2001 is the second national report card on Australia's environment and heritage.

It uses a system of environmental indicators as tools to measure the nature and size of the country's environmental issues.

Compiled by eight independent multi-disciplinary teams, it covers just about every aspect of the environment, from the ocean depths to the stratospheric ozone layer, from living in Antarctica to living in the big city.

It looks at arid Australia and the ways in which we use our scarce water resources, as well as exploring the state of our cultural inheritance and the ways in which modern land managers can learn from traditional Indigenous ways.

Australia: State of the Environment 2001 contains a wealth of information suitable for anyone who cares about the environment.

For decision makers, there is an extensive range of essential background information and, where appropriate, guidance on options for dealing with issues.

For students, its comprehensive treatment of a diverse range of topics makes it invaluable for assignments. The main volume contains a 'synthesis' report in printed form, as well as seven detailed reports on a CD-ROM covering the themes of Atmosphere, Human Settlements, Biodiversity, Land, Natural and Cultural Heritage, Inland Water and Coasts and Oceans.
