Showcasing the Salish and Pend d'Oreille tribes of the Flathead Indian Reservation in Montana, this award-winning two-DVD set explains the traditional and contemporary uses of fire by American Indians and teaches both respect for fire and awareness of its significance.

The first DVD is a companion to the beautifully illustrated book Beaver Steals Fire (Nebraska 2005), and winner of the American Indian Youth Literature Award.

The DVD features a short film of the story told by Salish elder Johnny Arlee and contains background information on the story's relevance for today's readers. The second disc, Fire on the Land, is an interactive computer DVD with a host of features, including a reading of Beaver Steals Fire in Salish and English, interviews with elders, a photo gallery, a primer on fire ecology, a database on fire-adapted plant and animal species, historical information about the Salish and Pend d'Oreille tribes, and perspectives from tribal fire managers.
