See all formats and editions

The evaluation of how well a school prepares its pupils for external examinations is a key indicator of its institutional effectiveness and the ability to measure "progress" or "value" which has been "added" to each pupil from the teaching and learning regime of each school.

This understanding being highlighted by the report of the Task Group on Assessment and Teaching (1988), which identified "levels" of performance on core subject areas at Key Stages.

This study has been designed to explore the role of Key Stage 3 Assessments in helping pupils progress to their GCSE examinations, with sample City Technology Colleges forming the basis of the investigations reported.
