This dictionary contains terms used in geochemistry and physical chemistry, geology and tectonics, meteorology and climatography, mineralogy, oceanology, paleontology, petroleum engineering pertaining to oil deposits and their explorations, petrology, petrography and rock mechanics, and sedimentology. A brief list of abbreviations related to the field has been included as an appendix.

The periodical research publications in Russian and English up to 1989 were scanned while compiling this dictionary.

It is useful to the translators of Russian scientific and technological literature and English-speaking scientists who wish to read Russian literature in the original.
