Social entrepreneurship is a term that is becoming more widely used and more practised internationally with innovative structures and models being created.

From Grameen Bank in India to the free University, CIDA in South Africa, social entrepreneurs are helping to address the growing issue of global poverty and its resultant social challenges.South Africa has always had a history of social entrepreneurship where NGO's, institutions and businesses were established to provide for the majority of the population who the Apartheid government largely ignored.

This book looks at the transition of these organizations pre and post-apartheid and the new institutions set up to address current crises such as HIV/AIDS.GIBS (Gordon Institute of Business Science) is one of South Africa's leading business schools and runs a Social Entrepreneurship department.This book profiles 19 social entrepreneurs (mostly from the Gauteng province) and the innovative approaches they have taken in order to tackle the various social challenges existing in their communities at various points in South Africa's recent history.

Each story is very different and the issues tackled span many different sectors.
