A Gypsy woman narrates. She has lived her entire life on a farm in tiny Felida Washington. On Christmas Eve she receives a letter inviting her, as an heir, to the reading of the will of philanthropist Henry Moore, a man whom she is certain she has never met. She and four other women, who have been Henry's lovers and wives spanning 35 years, arrive at an isolated mansion near Vail on the day before New Year's Eve. The other women talk about their lives, before, with and after Henry. As the pieces of the mystery drop into place, a love story grows out of memories until, finally, the Gypsy woman weaves her magic.
