Here we follow a lower-middle-class 1930s childhood in West Wimbledon, through the London Blitz of the Second World War, evacuation to Dudley in the West Midlands, adolescence in a grammar school, teacher training in Brighton in the 1950s, Manchester University and the teaching of deaf children over thirty years.

This is an insight into some of the social and educational changes in Surrey during the 20th century.
