Arid environments which cover over 30% of the global land surface and support an ever-growing human population have fascinated travellers, explorers and scientists for centuries. This collection of recent work in geomorphological processes, landforms and sediments in arid environments is by a team of international researchers.

The essays present data gathered by techniques ranging from the detailed monitoring processes in the field to remote sensing from space. It covers several main areas: landforms and sediments, rock breakdown and sediment mobilization, weather and extra-terrestrial arid areas.
