The Medical Research Council's Institute of Hearing Research has conducted several large-scale epidemiological studies of hearing impairment in Great Britain.

This volume presents data from these studies in a concise tabulated form that should be of value to professionals working in the field. The volume provides coverage of: the methodology of the studies; the prevalence of hearing impairments (mild to profound) and and estimate of the number of hearing-impaired people in each Health District of Great Britain as a function of a demographic group; detailed means and percentiles of hearing threshold distributions in the population and those who are reported not to have substantial noise exposure or ear pathology; and, an estimate of the range of hearing impairment measured as a function of what people said about their hearing (reported hearing disability).
