Annual Report for 1999 : The European Ombudsman

The most essential task of an Ombudsman's office is to intervene to assist citizens so that they are treated fairly and obtain promptly what they have the right to expect from the administration.

This report presents details of the various activities that the Ombudsman undertook in an effort to achieve this task.

It gives details of the complaints brought before the Ombudsman and the results of the interventions.

Details of the procedures and decisions are given, and in the cases where no mal-administration was found, a summary of the explanation of why a contested decision has been made is revealed.
