In 1905 Royal Consul Leopoldo Zunini came to Albany to establish an Italian consulate.

He soon dicovered that Albany was no longer the principal port of Western Australia.

As Consul, his principal concerns were overturning local prejudices towards his fellow countrymen, and to further a migration scheme for Italian settlers.
